About

Jay Bakker is an author and pastor of Revolution Church NYC. He believes in the importance of grace, that it should be present in our everyday lives, and that all God’s children are created equal. Jay’s newest book, Fall to Grace: A Revolution of God, Self and Society expounds his thinking on this issue especially as it pertains to those whom society places on its outskirts.

Growing up the son of a televangelist of one of the largest churches in the country, as a young man he experienced the hurt, rejection and shame that the church can often bring and because of this forgiveness and restoration are incredibly important to him. In addition to pastoring Revolution, Jay travels the country speaking to churches and organizations, encouraging them to reach out to the lost and hurting. Jay has also spoken at numerous festivals and churches as well as appeared both on television (Sundance Channel’s One Punk Under God, Larry King Live, 20/20, Good Morning America) and in print (Rolling Stone, NY Times, Esquire, Time, FHM, Charisma, Relevant).

Philadelphia, PA

About

Shane is a founding partner of The Simple Way, a faith community in inner city Philadelphia that has helped to birth and connect radical faith communities around the world, many of whom have become known as a “new monasticism” which produced the book Schools for Conversion. These communities seek to follow Jesus, to rediscover the spirit of the early Church, and to incarnate the “Kingdom of God” — a way of life standing in stark contrast to the world of militarism and materialism. At the Simple Way, their little revolution is lived out locally, as days are spent feeding hungry folks, doing collaborative arts with children, running a community store, hanging out with neighbors, and reclaiming trash-strewn lots by planting gardens. Shane and The Simple Way do much work to expose the fundamental structures that create poverty and to imagine alternatives to them. Shane serves on the Advisory Board for The Christian Community Development Association, one of the largest national associations of faith-based organizations whose pillars are Redistribution, Relocation, and Reconciliation. Shane writes and travels extensively speaking about peacemaking, social justice, and Jesus. He is featured in the DVD series Another World Is Possible and is the author of the several books including The Irresistible Revolution, Jesus for President, and most recently helped compile Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals.

About

Kurt Willems is an Anabaptist writer and speaker.  As a child he endured physical abuse and poverty, but God mended the broken pieces of his past and continues to use his story to move people into compassionate action.  After spending several years in both youth and adult church ministries as a pastor, he’s returned to seminary to finish a Masters of Divinity degree at Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary.  Through blogging (The Pangea Blog), Kurt ministers to thousands of people who desire a faith that pulls them out of the seas of Christendom into the Kingdom movement of a resurrected revolutionary. He’s a contributing writer for Red Letter Christians, and has also written for The Ooze, Emergent Village, and Sojourners.  Kurt’s also a passionate speaker who will inspire groups to live radical lives as conduits for the Kingdom of God.  He’s available to speak at your next – conference, church gathering, camp, retreat, university chapel, or event.
