This Lent Find Your Calling: NO to the Religious justifications of War & Ecocide

Jarrod McKenna Live Life Week 2
Irenaeus in the second century said: “The glory of God is a human being fully alive.” Have you ever felt fully alive? Like your life was on fire with the purpose you were born for? For Christians, the only place we find our calling is in Christ’s call, “follow me.”

Lent starts with us following Christ into the desert to find our calling in Christ’s. To enter into what Thomas Merton would call “a fasting of the heart that empties”…

Live Life – Week 1: Fast by Jarrod McKenna from World Vision ACT:S on Vimeo.

It’s significant to remember that Satan tempts Jesus with Scripture. What are the temptations? To save through something other than Calvary-shaped love; ecological exploitation, the violent power of kingdoms and religious spectacle that justifies what Dorothy Day calls ‘the filthy rotten system’. This Lent are we reading Scripture with and through Jesus, so we too can see only Calvary-like-love saves?

Lord may we say NO to the temptations that we might say YES to your nonviolent way of the Cross and live your love with Resurrection power.

Amen.
