Editor’s note: Our dear friend Bryan Sirchio shared this song with us. Keep up with him on his website.
I wrote this song in response to the Orlando Massacre. Raw, but something I needed to say… lyrics and video below.
Another heinous hate crime, this time I’m speaking out plainly:
I’m standing with the LBGTQ community.
I’m thinking ’bout the price you pay just to love the way you were born to love.
I’m thinking ’bout the fear you live with every day.
That’s what I need to say:
That I will not betray you with silence
I will not betray you with silence
And when words are not enough I will stand with you in Love,
And I will not be silent.
I hear the politicians begin to offer their soundbites
‘Bout radical religions and their positions on gun control.
There’s many conversations that we need to have, but we all know
Exactly who the target was in Orlando.
And I will not betray you with silence
I will not betray you with silence
And when my words are not enough I will stand with you in Love,
And I will not be silent.
And I know many folks believe that judgements
Are biblical and righteous and benign,
But that anti-gay exegesis has nothing to do with Jesus
And that way of being Christian is a spike in the hands of Christ.
And I will not betray you with silence.
