“It Came Upon A Midnight Clear” celebrated the announcement of “peace on earth, good will to men” as more than a sentiment to warm people’s hearts. It was a proclamation that injustice could not last forever.
I'm not sure if religion is the opiate of the masses, but I'm convinced that indifference is the opiate of the privileged. We turn to it when overwhelmed by the discomfort we feel about our complicity in an oppressed person’s reality.
If #BlackLivesMatter, I encourage you to think about ways you can make that clear in your family, church, and organizational culture today. This isn’t just the responsibility of police officers. It’s something all of us need to work on.
On Thursday, a group of Jesus and justice junkies will deliver some crowd funded solar panels to our Prime Minister on behalf of many of us who chipped in a few bob. We really want to wish our Catholic brother Merry Climate... err, I mean Christmas.
