As we reorient ourselves toward Christ in this season of Lent, we must remember that doing so tangibly and fundamentally means reorienting ourselves toward our neighbor.
If God was there at the cross, and Jesus rose again, then God could still be here —even after death, even after suffering, after divorce and betrayal. And the theology of the cross that is Lutheran not only heals, but it indicts.
We need to pray for the brothers and sisters who articulate the ugly values that were broadcast over television sets around the world, demonstrating that in America the problem of racism has been in no way resolved.
