Hate is not found in any list of virtues. Yet, interestingly enough, we find scripture saying, “There is…a time to love, and a time to hate” (Ecclesiastes 3:8)
I want to believe that moral character, sacrifice, decency, and goodness are important to you...But every time you have an opportunity to take up your cross and show me, it seems as if you are more interested in prospering white, male, heterosexual, right-wing, conservative power and privilege.
The tenets of true freedom, divine dignity, and equality for all are the ultimate obstacles to conservative evangelical Christianity’s battle to take the hill and lord itself over our country.
If God was there at the cross, and Jesus rose again, then God could still be here —even after death, even after suffering, after divorce and betrayal. And the theology of the cross that is Lutheran not only heals, but it indicts.
