The work of creatives is to be way-makers, to imagine streams in the deserts, to subvert the narrative and disarm the violent with beauty that humanizes and empowers. The prophetic artists are the ones willing to look longer and figure out how to get others to look longer. They are the ones who believe in another world so much so that they’re willing to bring it into being. Get to know these artists and musicians whose medium is hope.

“Black People Are Tired” was authored in the wake of Ahmaud Arbery’s and Breonna Taylor’s deaths. This video tribute seeks to honor them and all the lives ended in a world still infected by violent racism. May they rest in power. May we fight for justice.

If ever there was a time for the Church to be the light of the world, it is now. If ever there was an opportunity for us to become agents of healing, it would be now. If ever there was a time for the church to regain its leadership in integrous, prophetic music that can bring about lasting change, it is now.

Every prophet confronted the kings and leaders of his day with their lack of protection of, or oppressive treatment of the people they were charged with protecting. The public naming of things hidden, things embedded, systemic, is prophetic. Artists don’t exist outside of the tumult, and aren’t necessarily ahead of it, but they have decided to be free to ask questions.

We strive to love our enemies because Jesus loved us “while we were still sinners.'” This is such an important part of Christianity, but it’s so hard to actually live out, especially in an election year!
